Day Twelve | Blog Tember Challenge

Today's prompt: Tell us about a favorite tradition. It could be a family tradition or from a holiday, university, you-name-it. What makes it so special?

Old Cutler Road
A Tradition. I am not one to stick to traditions. Although I find it beautiful that many have traditions. If I had to choose a tradition though, one that I enjoyed and would like to share with others, I would say it is the tradition of light watching every Christmas. Every Christmas season before Christmas day, I like to get in my car, grab a cup of hot cocoa, grab a friend, and drive along Old Cutler Road to see the beautiful light displays on the gorgeous mansions (they’re not really mansions, but they look like it!). Every now and then I go alone and listen to Delilah’s Christmas picks on the radio  =)

There is something magical about Christmas lights. Some families are known for displaying light shows. Those are always the fun ones. It is fascinating to see how creative some people can be. Watching the light shows makes me feel like a kid again. It’s like a mini Disney experience. In fact any Christmas event is awesome!

What’s your favorite tradition?

Blog Tember Challenge | Day Eight

When the music changes, so does the dance. - African proverb
Today’s prompt: Music that moves you. Are you a Spotify addict or a Pandora guru? Tell us your favorite artists/stations!

Let it be known that I am not a music junky. I love rhythms that give my body freedom to move. My favorite thing to do is dance. So, as long as there’s a beat…I pretty much like the song that’s playing.

Instrumentals are nice but I usually listen to them when I need to clear my mind.

I am not big into contemporary Christian music (don’t throw rocks at me!)ha ha. The reason I am not into contemporary Christian music is because most of the songs I know are not shake your booty songs (And I just love to shake my booty!)

However, I do enjoy some good’ol worship music from Hilsong. I can always get into that ;)

Here are some of my stations on Pandora.

1.       Ingrid Michelson Radio (some good music when I am in a pensive mood or just want to relax)

2.       Sia Radio (I just love her songs! They make me wana shout and do a dance)

3.       Trap radio

4.       Lana Del Rey radio

5.       John Legend radio

6.       House Radio

7.       Regina Spector Radio

8.       Florence the Machine radio

9.       Beyonce Radio (when you just wana shake it and remind yourself of your independence as a woman!) ha ha.

10.   Hilsong Radio ( when I want to sing to God and thank Him for his love)

What do you listen to ?

Blog Tember Challenge | Day Seven

Today’s prompt:  What's on your current reading list? Or what have you read that you'd recommend?

7 Habits of a Highly Effective Person is the book on my current reading list. I must say that every time I pick up this book I decide to put it down; not because it’s not a good book, but, because it’s so good that I would need to set aside time to read it (my time management skills are horrible). It’s not an easy read and it’s not a book that I can skim through and still get the gist of it.

7 Habits of a Highly Effective person was a book written by a clinical social worker, Stephen Covey. This book is not a 7 steps to happiness kind of book. The 7 habits mentioned in this book are general habits and yet they are timeless principles that govern whether one is a successful person or not. These principles can be applied to businesses, marriages, friendships, and the list goes on. The principles are principles that the wisest of all have stood by. The book compels one to live a life of purity, self-awareness, and wholeness while pursuing the things in life that matter most.  The principles mentioned in the book are not outdated, they are essential principles that many have adopted throughout the course of history.

In order to give you a sense of what the book is about I have included a paragraph from chapter one that I believe is so simple yet so powerful.

” Your life doesn't just "happen." Whether you know it or not, it is carefully designed by you. The choices, after all, are yours. You choose happiness. You choose sadness. You choose decisiveness. You choose ambivalence. You choose success. You choose failure. You choose courage. You choose fear. Just remember that every moment, every situation, provides a new choice. And in doing so, it gives you a perfect opportunity to do things differently to produce more positive results.” – Stephen Covey

What book are you reading?

Day Two + Day Three | Blog – Tembler Challenge

So… I skipped a day.  I’m already having a hard time with staying faithful to this challenge. Because I skipped the second day I decided to include it in today’s post along with day three.

Day two’s prompt: Write about what makes you happy, from the little joys to the huge game-changers.

The little things that make me happy are:

Pretty pictures of landscapes

Anything in a mint green

Changing the color of my hair

Blue + sunny skies

The rain

Caramel Macchiatos

Sun flowers

The smell of lavender + vanilla

Candles light

Bubble baths

The beach

A good book

The game changers (my must haves) are:

       Alone time

Spending quality time with good people

Good conversation

A bright + colorful room

Orange juice

A good deal on anything

Now, moving on to day three.

Day three’s prompt: "When I grow up I want to be..." Answer as your 5-year-old self or as you are now.

Because I can’t make up my mind, I will answer as both the five year old and the 27 year old ;)

As a five year old I dreampt of becoming the leading ballerina on Broadway. I also dreampt of owning a flat in the heart of the Manhattan. I wanted this and more. I wanted love and not just any type of love. I wanted to marry prince charming.

As my 27 year old self, I want to travel the world. I want to become a clinician and invest in my social work career + I want to own a home.

These are just some of the things I want when I grow up.

I hope you enjoyed them.

What do you want to be and do when you grow up?

See you tomorrow for day four!

Day One| Blog- Tember Challenge| About the Author

It’s day one of the blog-tember challenge!  Today’s prompt is:  Imagine the front sleeve of a hard cover novel. Give us your "About the Author" so we can get to know one another, and for fun tell us what your imaginary novel would be about.

So here it goes!

About the Author

Grace Olivieri was born in Miami Florida on December 5, 1986. She is the founder of Healthy Living by Grace Olivieri (formerly known as Lil Bit of Grace + On An Adventure). Grace began blogging in 2011 after returning to Miami from New York. She graduated from Nyack College with her Bachelors in Social Work in 2011 and returned to Miami in May of 2011. She began working in Downtown Miami as an Eligibility Specialist, processing Medicaid applications for foster children. Due to the changes she underwent, Grace began to feel overwhelmed. She missed New York and missed being a student. Because she needed an outlet, she began to blog on, On An Adventure. Grace used her blog as a diary. She wrote about her toughest moments and processed her experiences on blogger. After becoming familiar with the blogging community Grace decided to take her blog a step further. On An Adventure turned into Lil Bit of Grace. Lil Bit of Grace was just the beginning of her vision for Healthy Living by Grace Olivieri. She blogged about her life experiences on Lil Bit of Grace and encouraged others to live a wholesome life. Today, Grace is writing at Healthy Living by Grace Olivieri empowering people of all backgrounds and creeds to seek a holistic life style. Grace Olivieri is a woman who loves the Lord and strives to share God’s peace with all she comes in contact with.

Grace is about to finish her Master’s degree in Social Work at Barry University. In her free time she enjoys spending quality time with her friends. Her favorite TV shows are Scandal, the Killing, and anything on Identification Discovery. Her celebrity crush is the wonderful and beautiful Joel Kinnaman (she’s a helpless romantic). Grace loves to dance, photograph and paint. If she were to write a novel for fun it would be about a young girl in her twenties who lives with her father on the country side and finds the love of her life while pursuing her dreams of educating children and moving to a big city. Overall, one would describe Grace as energetic, happy go lucky visionary who pursues her dreams.

Whew! That was a mouthful!

Well that was day one! I can’t wait to hear from everyone else participating in the challenge. Feel free to link up at I will see you all here tomorrow for day two! Until then enjoy your Labor Day weekend!
